Mouse Saw the Scream

Quick Overview:

The poster for Mouse Saw the Scream is inspired by punk zines using multimedia assets. After doing a photoshoot with the actors, I created prints and cut them out with an X-ACTO knife to lay out on coloured paper. I then took a photo of this layout in the sun to emphasize the shadows which made the image pop a bit more. The whole mantra was that I wanted it to look like I made it on the bedroom floor at 4am. But professionally?

Assets are a mix of practical elements and made in Adobe Illustrator. No AI.

For those who don't know me, my favourite type of live music is punk. Moshpits/cigarettes/aggressive music aside, I've always had an affinity for the DIY (do it yourself) aesthetic of the scene. Working within budget constraints and without outside approval often leads to more creative choices; no restrictions on self expression is why this medium pairs so well with activism.

Shanti Harris' play, Mouse Saw the Scream (with Sam Braun), pokes at several pressure points in the Gen-Z sphere; queerness, sex work, polyamory, drugs, and a diminishing innocence in this day and age. The play has this childlike, chaotic energy that's poetic and silly at the same time, and I thought the zine aesthetic captures this essence quite nicely.
